Senior Software Engineer II, youll be part of the core foundational
team within the Amex Enterprise Cloud Organisation, responsible to
lead, drive, build and scale AWS accounts for all of American
Express. Core Foundations is a fundamental layer to ensure AWS
accounts adhere to risk, regulations and compliance in accordance
with the financial guidelines and also enable AWS as an alternate
Cloud Provider of choice for application teams in parallel to the
Private Cloud. Roles & Responsibilities • Identify and implement
foundational building blocks needed to manage AWS (Amazon Web
Services) infrastructure for enterprise-scale software
applications; • Streamline the procurement and provisioning of AWS
accounts to support scalable cloud adoption; • Utilise and apply
foundational networking and security components to support hosting
of American Express applications and platforms on AWS; • Build
automation pipelines to scale account orchestration workflows and
improve operational efficiency; • Identify gaps in existing cloud
processes and propose solutions to enhance customer and platform
experience when using AWS alongside private cloud solutions; •
Apply the “secure-from-start” principles in software development to
ensure robust and compliant cloud solutions; • Analyse complex
application and platform design patterns and build cloud native
solutions that accommodate diverse architectures; • Design,
develop, test, and debug software applications and systems; •
Complete software builds through consistent development practices,
including the use of tools, common components, and documentation
with guidance from peers and leaders; • Complete code reviews and
automated testing to maintain high-quality code standards with
guidance from peers and leaders; • Support and monitor software
across test, integration, and production environments; • Adhere to
security and regulatory best practices to ensure software
compliance; • Collaborate and co-create effectively with teams in
product and the business to align technology initiatives with
business objectives; • Modify existing software to correct errors,
adapt it to new hardware, or upgrade interfaces and improve
performance; and • Determine system performance standards and
ensure software operates in conformance with specifications.
Requirements • This will be an individual contributor role who will
be a solid hands-on developer who knows what it takes to build
Cloud Platforms at scale. • Serve as one of the key members within
the Core Foundations Team representing location, geography,
knowledge and competence in AWS with an equal grit towards
technical delivery focused towards business continuance. • Is
proactive towards business problems and has the knack to challenge
these into solutions, keeping scale, stability and security in
scope. • Is familiar with one external Cloud Provider of choice in
depth - E.g., AWS, Azure or Google Cloud, with a deep desire
towards working in AWS. • Can work smoothly in an Agile Team and is
well versed with the Agile Software practices. • Has a passion to
drive industry leading technologies and bringing them into
production-grade scale into the firm. • Strong and clear to
communicate with a positive attitude towards problems and
willingness to serve and learn from everyone. • Stand as a
representative to Foundations across stakeholders, clients and
partners and assimilates the business requirements into
well-defined technical features. • Able to balance work priorities
- within and across teams. • Can closely collaborate with partner
teams demonstrating stronger and bigger solutions. • Is innovative,
experiments, takes calculated risks and challenges status quo. •
Comes across as a mentor towards the engineers and breaks down
complicated tasks into measurable items. • Hungry to learn and
implement ideas with practical solutions on the go. Minimum
Qualifications • Bachelors or Masters of Engineering in Computer
Science or in an equivalent stream. • 12 years of solid, proven
experience in Software Engineering and development. • 4 years of
proven experience in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools using
Terraform, Ansible or similar. • 4 years of experience working in
AWS/Azure Clouds. • 5 years working in Agile tools like JIRA,
Confluence, Git, GitHub Actions, CI/CD. • 5 years of proven
Software development in one or more of the programming languages -
Java, Go, Python. • 5 years of proven technical leadership
experience to lead teams to excellence with effective communication
skills. • Solid engineering experience building platforms for
application teams. • Knows how to build and run frameworks in
various forms in the platform. • Understanding application
development and deployment lifecycles on AWS is essential to
co-relate Platform development. Preferred Qualifications •
Experience in AWS Services like AWS Control Tower, EC2, IAM, VPC,
S3, Lambda, DynamoDB etc • Experience in Amazon EKS including
building EKS clusters and deploying apps on EKS. • Knowledge of
application architectures is a plus. • Understands Safe Agile
process and leverages to the best advantage. • Deeper understanding
& knowledge of AWS Networking and AWS Security is a huge plus. •
Knowledge of various other AWS Services is a plus. • Knowledge of
using Golang is a huge plus. Salary Range: $110,000.00 to
$190,000.00 annually bonus benefits The above represents the
