ASU Facilities Development and Management (FDM) maintains and

This position is located at the University Services Building, 1551
S. Rural Road, Tempe, AZ (on Rural Road south of Apache Blvd).
This position requires that you must possess a valid Arizona
driver's license (minimum of Class D) upon employment and maintain
throughout employment. Post-offer of employment, selected candidate
must possess an acceptable driving record which is 5 or fewer
points in the most recent 39 month period from date of hire.
This position is considered safety/security sensitive and will
include a fingerprint check. Employment is contingent upon

Job Description:
Facilities Development and Management (FDM), Business Services is
seeking an experienced Employee Relations Specialist to lead and
manage the division's employee relations program. This role is
central to fostering a positive and productive work environment by
providing guidance on workplace issues, addressing employee
concerns, and supporting supervisors in handling performance and
conduct matters. The ideal candidate will be a trusted resource for
both employees and leadership, ensuring fair and consistent
application of policies and practices.
In addition to employee relations, the specialist will contribute
to other HR functions as needed, including performance management
support, driver's license monitoring for FDM employees across all
ASU campuses, leave administration, and position management. This
role plays a key part in promoting a supportive and compliant
workplace culture throughout the division.
Essential Duties
Serve as a primary resource for employee relations by advising and
assisting managers in resolving workplace concerns, conducting
thorough investigations, documenting findings, and recommending
appropriate actions.
Interpret and communicate university policies and procedures to
managers, supervisors, and employees to ensure consistent
understanding and compliance.
Draft professional and compliant HR documentation, including
Memorandums of Expectations, disciplinary notices, termination
letters, and other formal correspondence.
Provide coaching to managers and supervisors on handling sensitive
personnel matters, conflict resolution, and maintaining positive
team dynamics.
Develop and deliver training presentations to supervisors and
managers on employee relations topics such as workplace conduct,
conflict resolution, performance management, and policy compliance
to build leadership capability and promote best practices.
Lead and monitor the department's performance management processes,
ensuring timely completion of evaluations and adherence to
established guidelines.
Oversee the driver's license monitoring program in coordination
with the Office of Human Resources, ensuring compliance with
university policy and state regulations.
Collaborate with other university departments and HR professionals
to promote consistency in HR practices across all FDM units.
Support employee onboarding activities by coordinating orientation
efforts and helping new hires integrate smoothly into the
organization.
Conduct exit interviews when requested to identify trends and
opportunities for organizational improvement.
Provide support for various leave of absence programs, including
Family Medical Leave (FML), ASU Extended Leave, Workers'
Compensation, and Alternate Duty assignments.
Assist with position management, including processing personnel
actions and supporting organizational structure updates.
Prepare and maintain accurate reports and records to track program
activities, employee metrics, and compliance data for internal and
external stakeholders.
Use HR systems (e.g., Workday) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word,
Excel, Outlook, Access) to manage employee data and support
day-to-day HR operations.
Handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and
professionalism.
Foster strong working relationships and contribute to a
collaborative, team-oriented HR environment.
Provide HR support across multiple units within FDM, including
Facilities Management, Office of the University Architect, Capital
Programs Management Group, Energy Innovation, Business Services,
and others.
Adapt to shifting priorities and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic
work environment, including resolving conflicts as they arise.
Clearly and effectively communicate with a diverse workforce to
perform essential job functions.
Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure smooth
department operations.
DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Salary rate: $60,000 - $65,000 per year, commensurate of experience
and education. ASU offers a comprehensive benefits package with the
State of Arizona.
Desired Qualifications
Experience providing employee relations support within a large and
diverse workforce, including interpreting policy and addressing
complex workplace issues.
Demonstrated ability to tailor communication for various audiences
and situations, with strong verbal and written communication
skills.
Proven success in coaching and mentoring managers on conflict
resolution, performance management, and handling sensitive employee
matters.
High level of emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills with
the ability to manage confidential and challenging situations
professionally.
Experience coordinating and supporting performance management
programs, including training, tracking, and compliance.
Strong ability to build and maintain effective working
relationships across multiple departments and organizational
levels.
Proven success working in fast-paced environments with shifting
priorities, sensitive information, and strict deadlines.
Working Environment
Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled
office setting subject to extended period of standing/sitting for
varying lengths of time and travel moderate distances to perform
work.
Must have the ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
and autonomously with a dynamic team of professionals.
Exercises judgement within generally designed practices and
policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining
solutions.
Regular use of standard office equipment including but not limited
to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse),
printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated
computer/technology peripherals.
Occasional bending, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 20
pounds.
Communicate to perform essential functions of the job.
Regular review of completed tasks.
May drive University vehicle/cart.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to
the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of
experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills
and abilities have been achieved.
